OCT 5335C - Clinical Applications in Mental Health Settings

Hours: 5
The course prepares students to critically appraise and deliver occupational therapy services in mental health practice settings with the goal of facilitating the recovery process for individuals, groups, and populations who are labeled with or at risk of experiencing mental illness across the lifespan. Trauma-informed care perspectives are presented as foundational elements that inform mental health practice across settings and populations. Students integrate opportunities for developing reflective practice skills, therapeutic use of self, and advocacy, while considering the impact of sanism and stigma in mental health practice. Level I fieldwork experiences enable students to observe, integrate, and apply concepts of the course in clinical situations.
