PHT 5447C - Prosthetics and OrthoticsHours: 2 This course explores the physical therapist’s role as an interprofessional team member to determine the necessity and type of prosthetic and orthotic devices required through an evidence-based approach to promote optimal movement for individuals with a variety of diagnoses including congenital and acquired limb differences and functional loss. Students develop an understanding of how to select, train in the use of, and evaluate the effectiveness of orthotic and prosthetic devices. This knowledge integrates biomechanical principles of upper and lower extremity orthosis and prosthesis management and apply them to patient evaluation and intervention with a particular emphasis on gait.
