PHT 5424C - Neuromuscular IV

This course provides the learner with advanced clinical knowledge and skills in examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, intervention, and assessment of outcomes for diverse patient/client populations with  neuromuscular conditions, including neurological conditions across the lifespan, including but not limited to cerebral palsy and spina bifida and rare neurologic health conditions in a variety of practice settings. The neuropathology, development of examination, and interventions for each neurologic condition are emphasized. A comprehensive integration of all prior coursework in the neuromuscular series are also reinforced. There is further integration and assessment of all prior conditions presented in the neuromuscular course series. The Physical Therapist Practice: Management Process from the Guide to Physical Therapy Practice and the International Classification of Function, Disability, and Health (ICF) Framework will be utilized as a basis for examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, management—including specific interventions and outcome  assessment. Students synthesize the concepts of clinical reasoning and clinical decision-making while incorporating evidence-based practice principles. The learner refines their ability to screen for conditions that may warrant a referral to other healthcare practitioners.
