SLP 5460 - Professional Issues in Speech-Language PathologyHours: 2-3 This course provides an in-depth examination of contemporary professional and ethical issues in speech-language pathology, including ethical considerations, licensure and certification requirements, cultural responsiveness, interprofessional collaboration, evidence-based practice, documentation, reimbursement, advocacy, and current trends in clinical practice. Emphasis is placed on the ASHA’s Code of Ethics, ethical decision-making, and strategies for effective professional communication and advocacy within diverse clinical and educational settings. Through case studies, discussions, and professional interviews, students develop a framework for addressing ethical dilemmas and navigating professional scenarios they may encounter in their careers.
Course is 3 credits for students starting the plan of study in the Summer 2025 term or after. Course is 2 credits for students starting the plan of study prior to the Summer 2025 term Prerequisite(s): SLP 5415 , SLP 5450 , SLP 5455
